Not all linen is created equal. Understanding what separates premium linen from cheap linen changes every purchase decision you make.
Weight and Weave
Quality linen has a satisfying weight and a visible, textured weave. Hold it up to light — you should see the natural irregularities of the fabric. Feel it — it should feel substantial. Quality linen has a slight roughness when new that softens dramatically with washing.
What to Avoid
Avoid linen blends with high synthetic content — they do not breathe and do not develop the beautiful patina of pure linen. Check the fabric composition label. For shirts and sets, aim for 100% linen or a linen-cotton blend for added softness. Anything with more than 30% synthetic content is not real linen — it is a compromise.
