Staying comfortable in extreme heat is primarily a fabric choice — and the science is simple.
The Physics of Linen
Linen fibres are hollow — they circulate air against the skin rather than trapping it. In 35°C heat, the difference between linen and a cotton t-shirt is immediately, physically noticeable. Linen also dries faster when damp from perspiration, creating a cooling effect that no synthetic fabric can replicate.
Coverage is Cooling
Counterintuitively, coverage can keep you cooler than exposure. A loose linen shirt creates a layer of moving air between fabric and skin that provides better temperature regulation than bare skin in direct sun. Choose loose, long-sleeved linen in light colours for maximum heat management.
